Motherhood, Business & Balance: The Truth Behind Trying to Do It All
We know exactly how it is: parenting, owning a business, and trying to find that ever-elusive thing called balance.
No one really prepares you for the way life shifts after you become a mother. Before kids, it's easy to map out your goals, your career plans, and your version of how life will unfold. You confidently say things like, “This is how it’ll be, and that’s that.” But the reality is: motherhood doesn’t always fit neatly into pre-made plans. It has a way of changing everything, not necessarily erasing your dreams, but definitely reshaping the way you move toward them.
We get it, truly, deeply. As a mother myself, I’ve lived it in the rawest way possible. And if I’m being honest? Some days, I still live it. What is balance anyway? Is it even real? Because with two kids, one with special needs, and another navigating developmental delays, balance often feels more like a myth than a goal.
The Pressure to Choose — And Why We Refused
In today’s world, women are often made to feel like we have to choose between our families or our careers. Like pursuing both is somehow selfish or unrealistic. But what if we don’t want to choose? What if we want to be fully present for our kids and continue chasing the dreams that light us up?
We’re modern women who chose not to settle for “either/or.” We refused to buy into the idea that motherhood automatically meant the end of our ambition. Instead, we decided to create a life where our children fit into the dreams we had already built — and those dreams included growing a boudoir photography business that, for us, became so much more than just a business. It became an empire — not in the flashy, corporate sense, but in the sense of building something meaningful, something impactful, something that serves both ourselves and others.
Building Community While Building Business
At the heart of everything we do is our community. Through our online Facebook group and in-studio events, we’ve created a space where women are empowered to show up as they are, both as mothers and as ambitious, career-driven women. We’ve built a place where you don’t have to hide any part of yourself. A place where self-love, confidence, vulnerability, and fierce ambition can co-exist.
Our mission has always been simple: to give women permission to embrace every piece of who they are. You can be exhausted and still powerful. You can be juggling a million things and still be capable of big, beautiful things. You can be both.
The Reality of Running a Business While Raising Kids
Let’s be real though, this life is far from glamorous some days. Running a business while parenting means rolling with the punches: unexpected sick days, PD days at school, last-minute schedule changes, and those never-ending doctor’s appointments.
Take this blog for example — it’s being written at my kitchen table at 10:30pm, because this is the first uninterrupted moment I’ve had all day. Flu season hit hard, my inbox is full of reschedule requests, and like so many of you reading this, I’m simply doing the best I can to stay afloat.
There are mornings when I skip work to take the kids to play group, or nights where I work until 2am because I spent the entire day tending to fevers, stomach bugs, and tearful snuggles. That’s the reality. We bend, we shift, we adapt, because that’s what moms do. We find a way.
You’re Not Alone, Mama
If you’re reading this and nodding along, we see you. We know what it feels like to carry the weight of both dreams and diapers, of conference calls and bedtime stories, of ambition and exhaustion. You’re not alone.
Our hope is that through our work, our studio, and our community, you’ll feel empowered to chase your dreams while embracing the messy beauty of motherhood. You deserve both. And if no one has told you lately: you’re doing an incredible job.
We see you, Mama. And we’ve got you. 💕
